A gentle, well-signposted riverside trail climbs the wooded Glenevin Valley to a wedge-shaped waterfall that tumbles into a foamy pool called Pohl-an-eas — and it costs nothing to visit.
At the head of the glen a wedge-shaped fall drops about 12 metres (30–40 ft) of mountain water over black rock into a basin known as Pohl-an-eas — the 'ferment pool' — named for the foam that gathers on its surface.
An easy, well-signed riverside path runs roughly 1 km from the car park up the wooded valley to the falls, taking about 30–45 minutes each way. It is mostly gentle but slightly uphill, crossing the stream on wooden footbridges and stepping stones.
New picnic areas and benches are set along the route and blend into the woodland, with vantage points looking out over the surrounding coast and countryside.
A tip from locals for families: tell the kids to look out for the fairy doors on the trees along the route leading up to the waterfall.
Glen House Tea Rooms sit right at the trailhead beside the car park. Stop in for a cup of tea, coffee and a scone before or after the walk.
The falls are a short spin from the Mamore Gap, Pollan Strand and several Inishowen beaches, and sit on the Inishowen 100 driving route — easy to combine with a day on the peninsula.
