A short, enchanting woodland walk on the Inishowen Peninsula leads to a 40-foot cascade tumbling over black rock into a tranquil pool — one of Ireland's most northerly waterfalls.
Follow the well-maintained gravel path alongside a meandering stream through mature deciduous woodland. The linear trail is about 1 km each way, virtually level, and takes 20–30 minutes. Wooden footbridges and stepping stones crisscross the stream along the route.
At the trail's end, the waterfall plunges roughly 40 feet in a slender wedge over dark rock into a natural basin. The pool is called Pohl-an-eas — Irish for 'foam pool' or 'bathing place'. Best seen after rainfall, when the cascade is at its fullest.
Kids (and adults) will love spotting the tiny fairy doors tucked into tree trunks and roots along the path. The glen has a sheltered, almost enchanted feel, with dappled light filtering through the broadleaf canopy.
Right beside the car park, the conservatory-style Rose Tearoom serves home-baked scones, cakes, tray bakes, light lunches, and fresh coffee or tea in china cups. Breakfast is served until noon, and afternoon tea is available for a treat. Decking overlooks the stream on fine days.
Several picnic areas with benches are dotted along the trail, blending into the natural landscape. It's a perfect spot to pause, listen to the stream, and soak up views of the surrounding coastline and hills.
