A dramatic roadside pull-off on the Copper Coast UNESCO Global Geopark, with sweeping Atlantic panoramas, a striking stone sculpture, and easy access to Boatstrand Harbour — one of the best viewpoints on the 25km drive between Tramore and Dungarvan.
The viewpoint offers unobstructed vistas across rugged cliffs plunging into the Atlantic. On clear days you can see for miles along the coast in both directions. The elevated position above Boatstrand Harbour makes this one of the most photographed spots on the Copper Coast.
A unique stone sculpture at the viewpoint represents the geological story of the Copper Coast — shaped by undersea volcanoes 460 million years ago and carved by ice ages. It's a popular photo feature and a talking point for visitors of all ages.
Just below the viewpoint, this tiny 19th-century fishing harbour is tucked into a rocky inlet. Watch fishing boats and leisure craft launch from the dock, or follow the slipway down for a closer look. Sea swimmers often finish their route from Kilmurrin Cove here.
Short, informal paths lead along the clifftop for different angles of the coastline. Caution is essential — the cliffs are unprotected, erosion is active, and paths can be narrow or unstable. Stay well back from the edge and wear sturdy shoes.
Dunabrattin Head is regarded as one of the best rock-fishing spots in County Waterford. The warmer waters around the rocky outcrop attract mackerel and other species. Bring your own gear — there are no facilities or tackle shops at the viewpoint.
There's a designated picnic area at the viewpoint with ample space to spread out. Pack food and enjoy a meal with the Atlantic as your backdrop — there are no cafés or shops at the viewpoint itself, so come prepared.
