A not-for-profit adventure park on the old Wandesforde Estate, where 80 acres of woodland and two lakes hold a 300m over-water zipline, high-ropes courses, boats and a coal-mining museum.
Ireland's longest zipline runs 300m across two lakes and the restored 17th-century bridge, 35m up at its highest point. The Octagon is a two-level high-ropes frame of nets, bridges and wires beside it. Zipline €20, Octagon €20, combo €35; zipline is 12+ and 1.35m minimum.
A three-level aerial course in the entrance sycamores with 40 challenges, up to 9m high — allow two hours. Add the outdoor climbing wall or the free-fall leap. Skywalk €30, with climbing wall or free fall €40, all three €49; ages 7+.
Four waymarked loops include the easy 1.5km Lady's Loop (buggy-friendly) and the 5km Ardra Castle Loop. Three permanent orienteering courses run 1.6km, 2.4km and 3km; maps cost €5 at reception.
A 45-minute multimedia tour from the formation of coal 300 million years ago through 300 years of mining to the 1969 closure. It is currently closed, but when open it costs €5 adults, €3 children, €4 students/OAP, €15 family.
Pedal boats and Canadian canoes launch from 12pm on the larger lake, under the restored stone bridge. Pedal boat €18 (4 people), canoe €18 (3), kayak €12 single or €14 double; minimum age 4. Sold on site only, first come first served.
A free hand-carved woodland village with a sweet shop, a fairy headquarters and toadstool paths, a 7-10 minute walk from reception. Next to it, the Bluebell Playhouse is a sensory room for visitors with autism.
A free adventure playground for ages 2-14 at the park entrance, with a mini zip-wire, climbing wall, swings and slide themed on Castlecomer's mining past. Children must be supervised by an adult.
Wander the former farmyard and stables of the Wandesforde family, now home to a growing group of craftspeople and artists with their own shops.
