About
Four waymarked loops thread through bogs and cliff-edge sheep paths on one of the most remote stretches of the North Mayo coast, looking out to the Stags of Broadhaven. Despite the drama, the Kilgalligan cliffs stay remarkably quiet.

Cliffs, wildlife and the Stags of Broadhaven
A profusion of cliffs, islands and dizzying drops gives a bird's-eye view of the Stags of Broadhaven, with sheep grazing the headland. Keep a safe distance from the cliff edge.
Carrowteige Beach Loop
The easy option at 6 km, roughly 1.5 hours, following surfaced road and sandy track past the cemetery to Carrowteige Beach before turning inland across bog. Green arrows on yellow.
Children of Lir Loop
Moderate 10 km, about 2 to 2.5 hours, tracing the black ditch along the coast to the Children of Lir sculpture at Na Príosúin and back through Ceathrú na gCloch. Blue arrows on yellow.
Black Ditch Loop
The longest loop at 13 km (2.5 to 3 hours), sharing the route to the sculpture then climbing east over open bog to the stream An Fiodán Dubh. Red arrows on yellow.
Trailhead and the Seanscoil information centre
All four walks start in Carrowteigue village; the trailhead and car park sit at the Seanscoil information centre, opposite the shop as you enter the village.
Food and facilities at Teach Greannaí, Cornboy
Nearby in Cornboy, the Teach Greannaí community centre serves Irish breakfasts, lunches, snacks and sandwiches, runs a takeaway, rents accommodation pods and can organise guided walks and packed lunches for walkers.

- Parking: Parking is at the car park by the Seanscoil information centre in Carrowteige village; the trailhead is opposite the shop as you enter the village. Park considerately and do not block gateways or narrow roads.
- Food: The nearest food is at the Teach Greannaí community centre in Cornboy, which serves Irish breakfasts, freshly cooked lunches, snacks and sandwiches, with takeaway in the evenings and at weekends.
